HANDYMAN | GRAND JUNCTION, CO
Captain Ron Handyman LLC provides home repair and maintenance services in Grand Junction, Colorado. Founded July 2026 by a retired fire captain with 30 years in the fire service and 45 years of construction experience. Carries $1,000,000 general liability insurance.
Two deck boards have gone soft and the gate has not latched right since spring. High desert sun and winter freeze work on everything outside a house here, a little more every year. Ron repairs decks, fences, gates, siding, gutters, and sprinklers around Grand Junction, and most of it is fixable without replacing the whole thing.

"Ron was timely, fair, and does excellent work. Highly recommend!"

Post first, then the hardware. A gate that drags or will not latch is usually the post leaning rather than the gate sagging. Ron checks whether the post has heaved or rotted at grade. If it is sound and just loose, it gets reset. If it has rotted at the ground line, it gets replaced or sistered. Only once the post is plumb does the hardware get adjusted, because realigning hinges on a leaning post is a fix that lasts about a season.
Ron checks joists and posts for rot before quoting board replacement.
Honest call on repair versus replace. He will tell you if it is replace.
Rotted boards, split rails, or heaved posts removed.
New material set, fastened, and matched to what is there.
Sealed where needed, debris hauled off.
Board level repairs are priced by the job, not by the square foot, because replacing six boards is nothing like resurfacing a deck. Fence post resets, gate hardware, gutter cleaning, and sprinkler head replacement are all small jobs with small prices. The estimate is free and there is no trip fee to come look, which matters on exterior work where you often cannot tell what is wrong from a photo. Bundle the deck boards, the gate, and the gutters into one visit.
It dries things out, then it freezes them. Grand Junction sits at 4,646 feet in high desert, and summer sun pulls moisture out of deck boards and fence pickets until they check and split. Then water gets into those splits and freezes, widening them a little more every winter. The same freeze-thaw cycling heaves fence posts out of plumb over a few seasons. None of it happens fast, which is why most people do not notice until a board goes soft underfoot.
